Jaar was born in Bethlehem. She received a certificate from St. Joseph de l'Apparition in Bethlehem in 1951. A self-taught artist, she received no formal training. Currently living in Martinique and the West Bank, she uses painting to express her feelings in a personal way.

Jaar first showed her work in a city-sponsored exhibition in Paris, and has participated annually in this show held at the Grand Palais. Her art was included in Forces of Change: Artists of the Arab World, The National Museum of Women in the Arts, Washington, DC, 1994.
